Off a New Season
The first outing of the 2011 season drew an
enthusiastic crowd to Malahide Golf Club, and despite a less than
optimistic weather forecast, those who turned out were treated to
very pleasant conditions for playing golf.
With placing everywhere thru the green, some good scoring was to be
expected, but a look at the Top 10 returns shows that genial Joe Sheridan
was the only player to take full advantage of the situation.
(No, there is no misprint, he really did win by a staggering 11 stableford
points).
As usual, the Annual General Meeting of the Society followed the golf,
during which Ian Corr was again elected President for life or longer,
Pat O'Donovan was installed as Captain for the coming year, and Tommy
Olin was named as Vice-Captain. All other officers were returned unopposed
and the fixture list for 2011 was released.
The Society is pleased to welcome our newest member, RTE's Phil Farrell,
a 9 handicapper from Delgany, and we trust he will enjoy a long and
happy association with us. We wish our good friend and longstanding
member Eddie O'Keeffe a full and speedy recovery following his recent
operation, and we are delighted to see our Treasurer John Foley up
and about once again, having missed much of last season thru illness.
Both have been sorely missed and we hope to have them walking the
fairways with us soon again.
Fancy an outing of a different kind? Then
please read on.
Sean Walsh is at it again, and would like you to share in his latest
epic - Over to you Sean ..........
BREAK A LEG!..
My wee Drama Group will enact my play,
“At the Praetorium”, on Sunday, March 20th
, at 8 pm in St. Fintan's Church, Sutton, Dublin 13. The first Good
Friday from a Roman perspective - not an angel or saint in sight.
Instead, Pontius Pilate, his centurion, the unnamed woman who is his
wife, her maid-in-waiting...
A five-hander in one act, it runs for 30 mins, with Audience Participation
for a while after the thunderous, final applause has died away...
Admission is free, as will be the cuppa in the adjoining
hall, later.
Mix, mingle, elbow. Tell fellow elbows how much you enjoyed the play,
how it deserves to reach a much bigger audience.. that you agree with
the person who drew a parallel between Pilate then, and church leaders
and politicians now...
Assure bearers of paper cups and valiant tea ladies that you were
sorry when it ended, how you would have wanted it to go on longer...
That will be me, over to one side, Biro at the ready, poised to smile,
scribble, nod in agreement...
So... are you on? Are you game?.. You could do worse!
- Sean Walsh (I make a mean Pilate!) -.
