Tom
triumphs at Rathcore
The annual outing to Rathcore Golf Club is
always eagerly awaited, as it combines a challenging course, picturesque
scenery, and the warmest of welcomes.
This rolling parkland gem can lull you into a false sense of security,
beginning as it does with a fairly generous Par 5 followed immediately
by a straightforward Par 4.
Then the fun starts, and if you're not careful, you may not be doing
too much laughing.
You need to plot your way thru the hills and around the lakes, and
if you eventually reach the sanctuary of the Clubhouse with your card
and sense of humour still intact, count yourself lucky, because you
have managed to succeed where many have not.
Six members of the Society scored in the 30s today, testimony indeed
to the difficulties encountered, while just one man, Tom McGrane,
played better than his handicap and returned 37pts to win the overall
prize. No doubt the broom-handle worked wonders once again, and Tom
tells me that he has vacancies at present for those disillusioned
with their conventional putters. The visitor's prize was won by Tony
Molloy with 35pts.
