Matchplay Final The European Club After a very cold night, it was no surprise to find that play was delayed until 10.30 to allow the greens to thaw, but with clever use of both 1st and 10th tees, everyone got away on time. The day was just perfect for golf; some sunshine, a little wind, some passing cloud offering just a hint of a shower, and this formidable golf course stretching out before us. The publicity for The European Club states that 'The first fairway sets the mood for an exciting day in the dunes' but if you are not on the fairways here, all your recovery skills will be called upon to extricate your ball from said dunes, assuming of course that you can find it. Everywhere you look there is a challenge, even on the Par 3s, and as you eventually finish out on the 18th, you know you definitely have experienced 'a true and great links'. The PRTV Society is fortunate to have such a wonderful venue on the calendar every November and we are indebted to the Course Owner and Designer Pat Ruddy for having us back so often. The course was in great condition as usual, and stableford points were difficult to come by, also as usual. The Lakelands Trophy is now contested here and this year's winner was our hard-working secretary, Paul McCarthy, who had no difficulty in switching from the parkland golf of Skerries to post the winning score of 32pts on the links at Brittas Bay.
The final outing of 2010 is at The Royal Dublin Golf Club on Mon.13th
Dec.
