There were 2 competitions up for decision today, the PRTV outing and
the annual match against the Dublin Journalists. Somebody was looking
after us weatherwise as it was a perfect day to play, and with the
course presented in excellent condition, good scoring was expected
from both teams. However, a look thru the cards returned will show
that Greystones is no pushover, with only Mark Carwood able to break
par off his handicap. It is now 8 years since Michael sadly left us
and this was the seventh staging of the match to honour his memory,
with each Society registering 3 victories to date. With the best 8
cards from 10 to count as the team score, every single point was vital
and when the dust settled and the scores totted up, the PRTV emerged
victorious 247 to 234. The prize for best score from the Dublin Journalists
was won by Liam Flynn with 34pts, with Michael Farrell's 35pts good
enough to take the PRTV best score award. The Michael Carwood Memorial
Trophy was presented to the winning team Captain Tom McGrane, (deputising
for Tom McCarville) by Michael's charming wife Kathy. Michael was
fondly remembered in tributes from Brendan Keenan on behalf of the
Dublin Journalists and Ronan Collins on behalf of the PRTV, while
Michael's son Mark replied on behalf of the Carwood family. As was
pointed out by the speakers, it was Michael's sudden passing which
brought our 2 Societies together in friendly rivalry, and we look
forward to many more exciting matches at Greystones in the years to
come. Matchplay
