Tommy pips Des for Overall

Golfing at Skerries in Summer is much more pleasant than during the bleak days of Autumn, so it was no surprise to see such a great turnout on Monday last. The morning sunshine promised good scoring, and with the course in wonderful condition, it did not disappoint. Squirrels, pheasants, and various other forms of wildlife could be seen admiring the golf, while envious train travellers surely wished they were walking the neatly manicured fairways rather than spending such a nice day indoors. Although the early starters were rewarded with a rain-free round, this is Ireland after all and not everyone made it back to the clubhouse without having to don their wet suits.
For much of the day, the 40pts returned by Des Long seemed untouchable but Tom Olin hadn't read that script and came with a late surge (and 43pts) to claim the day's top prize.
