Another Beech Park triumph for Shay
The outing to Beech Park was moved forward by a week this year to avoid the seasonal maintenance on the greens and it proved to be an inspired decision as we got to 'enjoy' those wonderful putting surfaces one more time. An unexpected, and thankfully brief, rain shower reduced their speed to around 25 on the stimp, but had no effect at all on Shay Smith's ability to find the bottom of the hole.
Shay strolled to victory with a super score of 41pts, with Vice Captain Paddy Higgins his closest challenger 4 points adrift. We did not play Beech Park last year as the outing was rained off twice, but in 2011, Shay also took top spot so surely a case of deja vu today. We sincerely thank Beech Park for facilitating our change of date at short notice, and wish to record our appreciation for the bar and catering staff who looked after us so well. We look forward to seeing you again next August.
