Serial Major Winner Strikes Again
Since golf began, many fine players have spent their golfing lifetime in search of a 'major' victory, only to find it has eluded them
. Many others have been content to finally capture one, and savour that moment forever afterwards. Tommy Olin, on the other hand, is no stranger to winning 'majors', and showed he isn't quite ready to start reminiscing just yet, by adding our Jubilee Year Captain's Prize to his already impressive list. Tommy's hard fought 34pts over the challenging Royal Dublin links was sufficient to get him home 1 point ahead of Brian Kelly and Denis Foley, but this win takes pride of place for two reasons. Firstly because it is the Golden Jubilee Captain's Prize, and secondly but more importantly, because this year's Captain is Paddy Higgins.
To mark this 50 year milestone, all past members of the PRTV Golf Society were invited to the Jubilee Dinner and were joined by The Royal Dublin Captain Enda McDermott, Paddy's brother Seamus, & some personal friends.
In his after dinner speech, Paddy charted the life of the Society from its inception, recognising the roles played by the founding members thru to today's officers, and paid a warm and emotional tribute to his dear friend Brendan McKenna. Vice Captain Brian Moran, having earlier recorded all the scores and declared the prizewinners, was also the Master of Ceremonies for the evening and contributed in no small way to everyone's enjoyment of a truly memorable occasion. Our sincere thanks go to The Royal Dublin Golf Club for facilitating us both on and off the golf course, and we look
forward to December when we will be back there again for our now traditional Christmas Outing and Cabaret.
