A
good day to be 'Michael'.
The Captain's Day is always eagerly awaited,
as golfers set out hoping that this will be their year for victory.
The competition usually takes place at the Captain's home Club, and
so it was on Monday 21st August when the Press Radio and TV Society
assembled at Grange Golf Club to contest the premier event on our
calendar and honour our Captain Michael Collins.
Although the early morning weather suggested otherwise, a perfect
golfing day finally emerged, and with the course in tough but perfect
playing condition, stableford points would be hard to come by. Nevertheless,
Michael Dunphy set about compiling 35pts to win the second 'major'
of 2017, while Michael Daly and Michael Farrell chased him home but
both came in 2 points short. Completing the trio of runners-up was
Pat O'Donovan, who eagled the final hole, thus improving his points
total by 5.
In an entertaining after dinner speech, Captain Michael thanked everyone
for making his year as Captain so enjoyable, and for their much appreciated
good wishes while he revcovered from illness. Everyone at Grange deserves
special mention for their hospitality both on and off the course,
while regular prize purveyor Michael Silke is to be commended yet
again for the fine array on show.
Regular outings will be resumed when we visit Lisheen Springs on Monday
18th September, but the next PRTV golf will be the 'overnight' trip
to Mullingar on Monday 11th Sept.
The tee is reserved from 11 to 1 p.m. and it is essential to book
your starting time on the timesheet with Paul.
Also, Bloomfield House Hotel woud like you to check-in before
going to the Golf Club.
