Elaine wins Captain's Prize at Delgany

After an absence of 10 years, the Press Radio and TV Golf Society returned once more to Delgany Golf Club on Monday 31st July for Denis Foley's Captain's Day.
Long established members will no doubt recall this challenging venue for the annual playing of our 'Stanley Bergin Trophy' outing, but it was one of our newer recruits who overcame the strength sapping climbs and tricky greens to take Denis's prize with a very creditable score of 34pts, chased all the way by local lass Breda Murtagh (33pts) and the trio of Jim McNelis, Pat O'Donovan and John Culloty a further point adrift.
Despite some threatening skies, conditions for the most part were favourable, with spells of sunshine interspersed with a few brief passing showers. The course was in excellent playing condition, a credit to the hard working greenkeepers, and much appreciated by all.
In welcoming members and guests to the traditional Captain's Dinner which followed, Denis paid tribute to Delgany G.C. and Club Captain Tom Bergin for facillitating us, and to those who had helped in the smooth running of his Captain's Day.
Thank you Denis for a most enjoyable day at your Club, and perhaps we will not have to wait another 10 years for a return visit.
