Another
'Rea' of sunshine at The European Club
Inside the door of the Clubhouse at the European
Club, you will find a plaque which says
"When primitave man screamed and beat the ground with sticks,
they called it Witchcraft. When modern man does the same thing, they
call it Golf."
Anyone with their ear to the ground during the Press Radio & TV
Golf Society outing on Tuesday 23rd April would have understood the
wisdom of those words.
The changing of this outing from its usual November date proved to
be the correct decision as the day was just idyllic and perfect for
a trip to Brittas Bay.
With the course in fantastic playing order, and weather to match,
it is something of a mystery why scoring for the majority failed to
match these conditions. This malaise did not affect the current Golfer
of the Year Peter Rea, or the fit-again Paul McCarthy both of whom
returned scores of 32pts, with Peter taking the Lakelands Trophy on
a countback.
It is always a pleasure to play at The European Club especially in
the warm sunshine, and we are grateful to Pat Ruddy and the Ruddy
family for hosting us once more. Many thanks also to the hard working
catering staff, who looked after us following the golf, and we look
forward optimistically to next year and a return visit.
