Fun at The European Club
Last week, The Irish Amateur Open Championship
was held at The European Club, with the course emerging as the real
winner. On Tuesday 19th October, it was the turn of the members of
The Press Radio and TV Society to answer the questions, but a glance
at the results sheet will show that, with few exceptions, finding
the solution is still a work in progress.
As in the Amateur Open where just one competitor broke par, only Ray
Maguire, no doubt buoyed by his success in the Captain's Prize, was
the sole player to break 30pts. This score proved sufficient to win
this year's Lakelands Trophy outing by a single point from a gallant
Breda Murtagh.
The unseasonally mild weather saw many in short sleeves before the
misty conditions drifted in, but these failed to put a dampner on
the enjoyment of playing this fine layout. We are again grateful to
the Ruddy Family for hosting us and plans are already afoot to secure
our booking for 2022.
As the Club restaurant is currently closed, those in need of sustinence
retreated, Covid certs at the ready, to nearby Jack White's Inn for
food, refreshment and the post round inquest. Results will be released
in due course.
