Niall on top at Grange.
The Pope has now been and gone, Padraig Harrington almost wins the Czech Masters, the Dubs are gearing up for yet another All Ireland, and the best summer in decades draws to a close
. Plenty to discuss then at the Press Radio and TV outing to Grange Golf Club on Monday 27th August.
Niall Mathews let his golf do the talking as he took the overall prize on a countback from Joe Rickard after both had scored 33pts.
Although Grange is one of Ireland's best parkland courses, offering a variety of holes in a stunning sylvan setting with views to die for, and always a joy to play, it is not that easy to score well here, as a look at the results will testify. Wayward shots can be severly punished and the slick greens are not for the faint-hearted. Nevertheless, there was a good turnout on a nice day for golf, with a special 'Céad míle fáilte' to Clayton Jones, all the way from Australia and we trust he enjoyed his time with us.
We are always well received at Grange and we are grateful to all involved for their continued hospitality both on and off the golf course. Local member Michael Collins is instrumental in securing our booking at Grange. I'm sure you noticed from the leaderboard in the hallway that he is handily placed to challenge on Day 2 of their Captain's Prize so we wish him well.
Our next outing is the 'overnight' trip to Mullingar on Monday 10th Sept.
with the tee from 12 to 2.
Also please don't forget our annual Charity Day at Forrest Little on Monday 24th Sept. so get your teams and vouchers ready, and book your starting time with Paul as usual.
Please note, handicaps for these 2 outings will be your GUI h/cap.
