Des strengthens Long held grip on GOY

The PRTV Christmas countdown began in earnest on Monday 19th Oct. with our annual visit to Greystones G.C. The north Wicklow venue has been on our calendar almost from the beginning and is just as popular today as it was on our early visits.
Competition for the first Hamper of the season is always keen and proved no less so this time as Des Long held off the challenges of Michael Farrell and Eddie Hearns, Peter Rea and Brian Kelly, to not only register his second overall win of the season, but almost guarantee this year's Golfer of the Year award. The fact that the players mentioned above were the only ones to score 30pts or better was a fair indication of just how difficult it is to amass stableford points here, as the course could not have been in better condition and the day was just perfect for playing it.
Congratulation to the busy greenkeepers for their great work and also to the diligent catering staff for looking after us so well. The fish & chips were worth the trip alone and we look forward to more of the same next year.
As usual, prizes will be presented during the Christmas dinner at Royal Dublin.
