Ex
Officio takes PGA Tankard
Twenty nine degrees,
balmy sirocco winds, beautiful fairways and magnificent greens are
a golfer’s dream. Could this be Spain ?, or maybe Portugal ?,
or even Florida? No,
this was Hermitage Golf Club, on a fabulous July Monday, hosting the
annual PGA Tankard outing oe the Press Radio & TV Society at this
splendid Lucan venue. The condition of the course had the downside
of bringing every hazard into play and most players’ bunker
skills were tested on the day. Staying out of the Liffey wasn't any
easier either.
It was a day that separated the men from the boys or rather the MAN
from the boys! The man was Tommy Olin who returned an outstanding
44 points to outclass his baffled pursuers by a staggering eight strokes.
While their 36pts would have comfortably won here in other years,
our captain John O’Sullivan, Brian Kelly and Michael Doherty
had to be content with lesser rankings this time. The
Captain was effusive in praising Hermitage on the condition of their
course and looked forward to returning next year.
Best
wishes to our doughty representative, Tommy, when he competes in the
Master Tankard competition later in the year.
