Treasurer
banks President's Prize
Switching the President's Day from the
heretofore traditional May date to early September proved a real winner
for the PRTV Golf Society this year. By reaping the benefit of the
preceding warm summer months, the Lisheen Springs was in magnificent
condition, something which could also be said of John Foley's golf
game. Despite a reduction in GUI h/cap which also applied to his Society
h/cap before play commenced, John responded positively by returning
the winning score of 40pts to claim Ian Corr's President's Prize,
finishing 2pts clear of his nearest challengers Mick Daly, Eddie Hearns
and home Club member Michael Farrell.
Golf is but one of the ingredients of a successful golfing day. Post
round socialising coupled with the President's eagerly awaited after
dinner speech adds much enjoyment to the occasion and so it proved
once again. Those
suffering from sesquipedalophobia had nothing to fear this time as
Ian fondly revisited rounds of golf that, like Wordsworth's daffodils,
regularly flash upon his inward eye, and where he is still off single
figures. He was also full of praise for the excellent work of the
Kavanagh family since the formation of Lisheen Springs and thanked
them for hosting the PRTV once more. We are fortunate that one of
our major events should be played on this testing golf course, arguably
in its best ever condition, and we look forward to returning again
in 2015.
