Derek marks PRTV Luttrellstown debut with win

As springtime draws to a close and new growth is seen everywhere, the PRTV Golf Society branched out in a new direction on Monday 25th May with its first visit to Luttrellstown Castle Golf & Country Club in leafy Castleknock. The day was almost perfect for golf, overcast with just a hint of breeze, while the rolling parkland of this idyllic setting was a joy to behold. Balls sat invitingly on the neatly prepared fairways, while the greens were tricky enough to negotiate, faster than first glance might suggest despite the aftermath of remedial work on a few. The abundance of wildlife provided welcome distractions and tranquility was interrupted on a few occasions as the rooks noisily warned off approaching herons overhead and resident swans swiftly dealt with a pair of unwelcome trespassers on one of the lakes. In the midst of all of this, stableford points were being accumulated, mostly by Derek Richards, whose score of 36pts was enough to give the popular Old Conna man a 2 point victory over Jerry Hayes and Martin Clancy. Full marks to the hard working greenkeepers for presenting the course in such good condition, and many thanks to the staff of the Spike Bar for looking after us following the golf.
Looks like Luttrellstown could become an annual fixture from now on.
