The season has begun in fine style with 33 players teeing off in the traditional 'opener' at Malahide on Monday 20th February.
Scoring was good overall and Peter Rea signalled his return from a broken arm by posting the winning score of 39pts playing off 10.
He was chased home by Paul McCarthy (37pts) and Pat Courtney (36pts), while other regular prizewinners completed the leaderboard
At the well attended A.G.M. which followed, Tom Olin was installed as Captain of the Society for 2012 and named John O'Sullivan as his Vice-Captain, a very popular choice indeed. The remainder of the outgoing Committee was returned 'en bloc' for another term and following some discussion, it was agreed to leave the annual subscription unchanged for another year. Good news you will agree.
The fixtures for the coming year were unveiled, and while we will not be visiting The Island this Autumn, there are two new challenges on the calendar, Newlands at the end of April and Killeen in early September for the Captain's Day, so full marks to the Committee for such a full and varied list.
A vain attempt was made to have the use of long handled putters outlawed at outings but after some discussion, the motion was rightly withdrawn on procedural grounds. More good news.
Following the success of last year's overnight outing to Athlone, a specially formed sub-committee will source possible venues for a similar trip this year and report back with their findings.
