The
traditional Press Radio & TV Society
season opener was held on Monday 17th Feb.at rainy Malahide, but
despite the poor weather early on, a sizeable crowd took to the
fairways to kick-start the Jubilee year.
Given the current monsoon season, the golf course was quite dry
for the most part, with the well presented greens a joy to putt
on.
Martin Clancy gave notice of his intentions with an almost flawless
display of driving and approach play to win the outing, the highlight
being a tap-in birdy at the 10th where he almost holed his 2nd.
As usual, the Annual General Meeting followed the golf, during which
outgoing Captain John O'Sullivan thanked the membership for their
support and outlined what the honour had meant to him. Incoming
Captain Paddy Higgins took office for 2014 and Brian Moran was named
as his Vice-Captain to popular acclaim. Two vacancies on the Committee
were filled by Tom McGrane and Barney Keville and Treasurer John
Foley announced that the annual subscription would remain unchanged
for another year. The fixture list for the coming year was unveiled,
with Paddy's Captain's Day scheduled for 16th June. Could Joyce
be superseded by the introduction of 'Higginsday'? Let's wait and
see.
We thank Malahide Golf Club for looking after us once again, and
'well done' to their greenkeepers for presenting the course in such
excellent condition despite the prolonged wet weather.
