The Press Radio & TV Golf Society got the new season off and
running with the customary outing to Malahide, followed by the Annual
General Meeting. Des Long showed that he is has lost none of his
sharpness since the matchplay final by taking top spot with 34pts,
1 better than second placed Michael Collins, with Charlie Doran
a further point adrift in third. The AGM was very well attended
and the usual reports from the Hon. Secretary and Treasurer were
endorsed by all present. Before installing the incoming Captain
Brian Moran, outgoing Captain Paddy Higgins reflected on the success
of our Golden Jubilee and in particular, his Captain's Day at Royal
Dublin, expressing the hope that some former members would return
to the Society. The 2015 Captain then took the chair and having
nominated Pat Courtney as his Vice-Captain to popular acclaim, welcomed
new member Kyrle Cahill to the Society. The election of officers
saw President for life (or longer) Ian Corr continuing in that role,
Paul McCarthy and John Foley returned as Hon. Secretary and Treasurer
respectively, while Michael Farrell was named as Handicap Secretary.
The remaining 5 committee members are Dave Green, Tom McGrane, Eddie
Hearns, Barney Keville and Shay Smith. The new fixture list revealed
trips to new venues Luttrellstown in May and Grange in June for
President's Day, coupled with a return to Hollystown for Brian's
Captain's Day on 17th August.
We are indebted to Malahide Golf Club for facilitating us once again,
and we wish the Club continued success both on and off the course
during the coming year.
