Weather fails to dampen spirits at Mullingar
The ever popular annual away outing took place on Monday 10th September to Mullingar Golf Club, and although the weather forecast may have forced some last minute cancellations, 18 intrepid souls risked being washed away by teeing off. However, the monsoon never materialised and although there were a few intervals of light rain, they only added to the challenge of this tough championship course. With the fairways sanded and greens recovering from seasonal maintenance, points were at a premium but the 33pts score accumulated by Michael Farrell was just enough to keep Captain Myles Cronan in the runner-up spot yet again, with Des Long and Noel Russell joint 3rd.
Although golf is an essential element, it is but the secondary reason for this event.
The tasty meal in the Clubhouse, followed by a night of conviviality at nearby Bloomfield House Hotel, is the prime justification, and we were not disappointed on any front.
We are grateful to the good people at Mullingar Golf Club for their kind hospitality both on and off the course, and to the Bloomfield House Hotel for accomodating us once more. The away day is a welcome addition to our calendar and hopefully will continue in future years.
