Happy Day at Mullingar
When the sun is shining and short sleeves are the order of the day, what better way to spend your time than taking a leisurely stroll while chasing a small ball around a golf course. When that course is the rolling parkland of Mullingar, you are doubly blessed, as the members of the Press Radio and TV Society and their guests discovered on Monday 14th August.
Following on from the previous weekend's Scratch Cup, Mullingar was in superb playing condition and a real test for the larger than usual group of attendees, all hoping to emulate eventual champion Luke O'Neill, and take the top spot. A countback was needed to separate first from second in both Member and Visitor categories, with Aidan Butler getting the better of Captain Denis Foley on the last 6 in the former, after both had posted totals of 34pts, while Derek Riordan's better inward 9 saw him just edge Sean Stone in the latter with 37pts.
The presentation was held in the Clubhouse after a most enjoyable meal, and Captain Denis spoke for us all when complimenting the catering staff and everyone associated with Mullingar Golf Club for their continued hospitality down through the years.
The festivities then moved on to the nearby Bloomfield House Hotel where music and song continued into the early hours. Great credit is due to our jovial Hon.Secretary Paul, for organising this very successful annual trip, and be assured that it will appear once again on the 2024 calendar.
Procedings were somewhat tinged with sadness as we learned of the recent passing of Dermot Kelly, formerly of RTE Radio Sport and longterm stalwart of the PRTV Society during the early years. May he rest in Peace.
