What
a difference a good putt makes
The
Press Radio & TV Society jubilee year bandwagon continues on its
merry way, and rolled up to Newlands G.C. on Monday 28th April for
the latest instalment of our year long celebrations. Overcast skies,
pleasant temperatures and the absence of any prevailing wind meant
that scoring would be better than usual, provided that play for the
most part could be from the perfectly manicured fairways, rather than
from amongst the many welcoming trees lining every hole. Given that
50% of the scores returned were
in the 30s suggests that many responded positively
to the excellent condition of the golf course and the trueness of
the greens.
When the dust settled, Michael Farrell from neighbouring Tallaght
energed victorious, his 10 foot par putt on the last for 37pts being
just enough to relegate the 36pts of Michael Collins, Peter Kennedy,
Brendan O'Farrell & Peter Rea to the runners-up spot. John Foley
& Pat O'Donovan were a further point adrift, perhaps rueing a
misplaced drive or careless putt along the way.
Once again we compliment the hardworking greenkeepers for having the
course looking and playing so well, and well done also to the bar
and restaurant ladies for looking after us so well after the golf.

Captain Paddy Higgins announced that our next outing will be on Tuesday
May 13th to Co.Meath (Trim) but this will NOT
be the President's Day. Nevertheless, a great day out is in prospect
so make sure to book your place on the timesheet with Paul.
