Anne
Marie triumphs at Newlands
Fourteen
years ago, Annika Sorenstam, the top Lady golfer at that time, took
part in a PGA Tour event at Colonial but unfortunately she failed
to make the cut. No such problems for Anne Marie Kearney at the PRTV
outing at Newlands on Monday 24th April, when she cruised to victory
while leaving most of the men in her slipstream. Pat Courtney's return
of 39pts would be enough to win many other outings, but he found himself
relegated to the runner-up spot on a countback.
Despite meteorological forebodings, the day turned out fine for golf
- somewhat cloudy and at times punctuated by welcome spells of bright
sunshine - with just a brief shower catching the final groups. It
is always a pleasure to play Newlands and this was no exception. The
course looked magnificent and was in great order, with the greens
as treacherous as ever. Many thanks to the bar and catering staff
for the delicious food and drink after the golf, and I'm sure this
venue is already pencilled in for 2018.
