Portmarnock - Monday 26th March 2012
What a wonderful start to the 2012 season proper.
Sun drenched Portmarnock was the venue for the traditional opening outing of the Press Radio and Television Golf Society for 2012, and while our celebration of 50 years in existence might not
be until 2014, every visit to this famous links is itself a cause for celebration. Other reasons to celebrate were the introduction of new members Denis Foley, Peter Kennedy and Brian O'Mahony, along with the welcome return of 'prodigals' Christy Bollard, Anne Marie Kearney and Joe Sheridan to the PRTV fold. Captaining his local Pitch & Putt Club has not dampened Joe's enthusiasm for the long game, and his score of 36pts was enough to pip Tom McGrane for the top spot. We started on the 'Yellow' or 3rd nine, as the championship front 9 was closed for remedial work, but this stretch demands just as much respect as it's more illustrious companion. The course in play was presented in excellent condition on a super day for golf, but a look through the returns will testify to the difficulties experienced by many on this true Championship layout.
