Martin takes his revenge on Rathcore.
Cast your mind back 12 months to our trip to Rathcore in 2013.
The winning score then was 36pts, but the course was very unkind to Martin Clancy that day, restricting him to a modest 20pts for the 18 holes. Fast forward to Monday 14th April 2014 and who do we find on top of the leader board ? Why none other than Martin. Not only did he win overall, he blitzed the field for good measure with a super score of 42pts, leaving John Keane (39pts) and Peter Rea & Jim Doran (38pts) trailing in his wake. What a difference a year makes.
Once again the sun was out and short sleeves and sweaters were the order of the day. The distinctive new Society sweater could be easily identified as members plotted their way around, so if you haven't yet ordered one, do so before it is too late.
The golf course has wintered well and is in great condition, a credit indeed to the hardworking greenkeepers. The undulating terrain can pose many problems and a glance at the scoreboard will reveal that very few of us were able to solve them. For many years now the Society has been well received here and this year was no exception. The catering is first class and our thanks go to the Lyons family and the ladies in the Clubhouse for looking after us so well once again.
