Christmas Outing triumph for Tony

The final outing of the season was held on Monday 10th December at The Royal Dublin Golf Club and despite a frost delay, everyone managed to get away OK. The competition was curtailled to the first 14 holes, which proved a bonus for some but not so for others who were keeping the good golf till last. Although taking a few holes to get warmed up, Tony Dooley clicked into gear in plenty of time to post the best score of the day to claim top spot and the Brendan McKenna Trophy for 2012. Pictured above, Tony accepts the trophy from Brendan's daughter Noreen. The highlight of Tony's round had to be his chip-in birdie at the difficult Par 4 10th which netted him 5 stableford points, and his total of 30pts was enough to relegate Christy Bollard and Peter Rea to the runner-up positions. The PRTV Matchplay final was also down for decision today and in a close encounter, Pat Courtney cemented his position as Golfer of the Year by getting the better of a gallant Percy Harman.
As per usual, the year was closed in style with members and guests coming together for the annual Christmas dinner and cabaret in the Clubhouse. Among those enjoying the apres golf were Sean Kelly, Captain of the host Club , Eamonn Brennan, Captain of Howth G.C. and some of our sponsors. With regular performers Eddie Finlay and Ronan Collins unavailable, keyboard wizard Seamus Brett and percussionist extraordinaire Paul McCarthy joined Aonghus McAnally to provide the evening's entertainment. Contributions from our good friend Sean Keating on clarinet and Tom McGrane completed another memorable occasion, and Jim Doherty kept a watchful eye on the sound.
We are grateful to Royal Dublin for having us back once more and look forward to returning next year, which we believe will be our 38th. Doesn't time fly when you're having fun.
