Myles brings Memorial Trophy back to Howth
Consistency is an admirable trait, and when applied to one's golf game, is almost certain to bring rewards. Vice Captain Myles Cronan was a quiet starter this year, but having activated the consistency switch at Luttrellstown, managed to keep it in the 'on' position for the remainder of the season. No surprise then to see him lift our final 'major', the Brendan McKenna Memorial, at The Royal Dublin Golf Club on Monday 18th December, by one single point from Paul Tighe and Brian Kelly.
With the original date having fallen victim to the arctic conditions of the previous week, a feeling of deja vu greeted the early arrivals for the refixture, but after an hour's delay, the course opened for play much to everyone's relief. A nice bright morning with no wind usually means that scoring will be relatively good and so it proved. The best score of the day was the 37pts. shared by Myles in winning the Members' competition and Gerry Thornton for the visitors. Captain Michael Collins prevailed over Paddy O'Connor to win the 2017 Matchplay, and thus confirming that he is indeed the Golfer of the Year.
The traditional dinner and cabaret brought the curtain down on another successful year for the PRTV Society and we are very grateful once again to Royal Dublin for their hospitality. Our thanks also to the bar and catering staff for looking after us so well as usual, and of course not forgetting our fantastic cabaret artists Ronan, Eddie and Aonghus, auxiliary drummer Paul, and surprise guest star, the legendary Tony Kenny.
Wishing all our Members and Friends a very Happy Christmas
and a
Peaceful and Prosperous New Year.
