John saunters to victory in final 'Major'
"Royal Dublin can be heaven, for golfers at eleven, and a stroll to the first green.
No need to hurry, no need to worry. You’re a king and the golf ball's a queen."

Strains of The Dublin Saunter, written by the late Leo Maguire many years ago, may have been in the air on December 10th as the Press Radio and TV Golf Society paid its annual Christmas visit to The Royal Dublin.

King of the fairways on this tranquil Monday was John Foley, who showed a clean pair of heels to all pretenders to the Brendan Mc Kenna Trophy throne with an excellent score of 35pts, carved out of a reduced 14 hole par 66 course. Charlie Doran and Paddy Higgins tried in vain to catch him, each having 34pts, while regular stalwarts Brendan O’Farrell and Brian Kelly completed the Top 5.
Handicaps were seven ninths of normal with some cards showing that maths may not necessarily be every golfer’s strong suit! Just as well that our eagle-eyed scrutineer was on hand to rectify any discrepancies.
The Golfer of the Year competition was won by Peter Rea who held off the anticipated challenge of Des Long, while we still await the result of the Matchplay final.
Our Captain, Myles Cronan, thanked Kevin McKenna for once again presenting the trophy to the winner, and the Club for their hospitality and pleasant service. Peter Finnegan, representing the Royal Dublin, said that they eagerly looked forward to our annual outing and that we would always be welcome here.
Eddie Finlay, Ronan Collins and Aonghus McAnally again provided the after dinner entertainment and, just like good wine, they improve with age! Guest appearances by Dave Green and Paul McCarthy added enormously to the enjoyment.
Yes, there was indeed some magic in the air.

Wishing all our Members and Friends a very Happy Christmas
and a
Peaceful and Prosperous New Year.
