Dunphy
silences critics at Skerries
On a magnificent sunny north Dublin day
at the 110 year old Skerries Golf Club, Dunphy (Michael, not Eamon)
struck top form to claim the overall prize and prove that he is no
flash in the pan! Working under the radar in earlier outings, it all
came together for him on Monday 12th October, as he posted an admirable
38 points defeating Martin Clancy on the back nine. Who could criticise
that type of scoring? Both players showed a clean pair of heels to
the rest of the field, of which many had struggled with the challenges
of this parkland course. Basking in the welcome autumn sunshine, the
fallen golden leaves rendered many errant balls pretty well invisible
and as we all know, lost balls seriously impact scorecards. At least
that was the excuse used on the day by some of our top performers
for their relatively low scores.
Nevertheless, everyone was happy in the clubhouse afterwards, no doubt
buoyed up by the quality of the catering and the friendliness of the
staff. Thanks again to Paul McCarthy for organising the rescheduling
of this outing. Can’t wait for next year!
