Collins
wins at Co.Meath
With this year's Captain's Day just around the corner, the traditional
President's Prize outing has been moved from its regular spot on the
calendar to an Autumn date to give a more balanced look to the fixtures.
Nevertheless, the Society turned out in force on Tuesday 13th May
at Co.Meath Golf Club for our annual visit, where 4 players tied the
top score of 38pts. The countback system was called for once again
before big hitting Michael Collins was declared the winner by virtue
of the best inward half over Mick Daly, Brian Kelly and Peter Rea.
Conditions were near perfect with just the occasional passing shower
keeping the dust down. Signs of Spring were all around, from baby
rabbits familiarising themselves with their new surroundings to the
solitary swan practising take-offs and landings on the pond at the
2nd hole. Flowering gorse provided the perfect backdrop to this well
presented golf course, as everything at Trim contributed in no small
measure to the ovderall enjoyment of yet another great PRTV day.
Although there was no Presidential speech to entertain us, Captain
Paddy introduced a new concept to the prizegiving - delegation. Rather
than delay proceedings, he commissioned Tom McGrane & Brian Moran
to announce the results as he himself tucked into a culinary delight
from the restaurant menu, and a super job they both did if truth be
told. Nice one Paddy.
The draw for the 1st round of Matchplay 2014 was also made and can
