Early bird catches Woodbrook worm The traditional 9 a.m. start for the annual
visit to Woodbrook posed no problems to this year's winner, Pat Courtney.
Having posted an excellent score of 37pts playing in the first group,
he could relax safely in the knowledge that the most of the field
would struggle on the greens, and so it proved. Woodbrook's President's
Prize was held the previous day, and the same challenging pins were
still in place for us. The putting surfaces were fantastic but it
was all too easy to find yourself contemplating putts with uphill,
downhill, right to left, and left to right characteristics, all at
the same time. Tom McGrane took all this in his stride, recording
a mere 11 putts over the front 9 on his way to a very respectable
35pts, while Pat O'Donovan and Myles Cronan could be well pleased
with their 33s. Next
