Early bird catches Woodbrook worm

The traditional 9 a.m. start for the annual visit to Woodbrook posed no problems to this year's winner, Pat Courtney. Having posted an excellent score of 37pts playing in the first group, he could relax safely in the knowledge that the most of the field would struggle on the greens, and so it proved. Woodbrook's President's Prize was held the previous day, and the same challenging pins were still in place for us. The putting surfaces were fantastic but it was all too easy to find yourself contemplating putts with uphill, downhill, right to left, and left to right characteristics, all at the same time. Tom McGrane took all this in his stride, recording a mere 11 putts over the front 9 on his way to a very respectable 35pts, while Pat O'Donovan and Myles Cronan could be well pleased with their 33s.
The day was just perfect for golf, and although some dark clouds hung ominously over the nearby Sugarloaf, the rain held off and the umbrellas were not needed. It was great to see our good friend and former long standing member, Les Tynan, making a welcome return, we thank Woodbrook for their customary hospitality, and look forward to playing there again next year.
