Another 'Major' for Des
As you walk from the Clubhouse entrance towards the bar at Woodbrook Golf Club, you will see the gallery of all the golfing greats who competed there down through the years. Only a few of them can boast of winning there so Des Long's victory in the PRTV Society's first 'major' of the year on Monday 4th July sees him join an elite group indeed. On a day when rain threatened more than once but had the good grace to stay away until evening, Des did just enough to edge out Brendan O'Farrell on a countback with both having returned 36pts.
The course was in great order from tee to green, where the putting surfaces would frighten, but nevertheless reward, all but the bravest, while the adjacent Bray Head and Sugarloaf mountains watched in amusement.
After a very welcome and tasty meal, President Ian introduced his sporting guests, former International hockey Captain, Irene Johnson and Shamrock Rovers legend Harry Lennon, before recalling that Woodbrook was one of his all time favourite golf courses but that it was now 20 years since he had played here. It certainly won't be that long before we are back here once more.
