Niall takes President's Prize at Woodbrook
This year's 'Majors' could be compared to the buses - you wait for ages for one and lo and behold, along comes another shortly afterwards.
At sun drenched Woodbrook on Monday 2nd July, Ian Corr's President's Prize was keenly contested, and when all scores had been returned, Niall Mathews was the clear winner with a super score of 37pts, 4 better than the chasing trio of John Keane, Barney Keville and Enda McDermott.

Because of the prolonged dry spell, the course bore more resemblance to an Open Championship links on final day than the challenging parkland we usually encounter. However, it was eminently playable, with scores suggesting that a missed putt here and there was the difference between taking a prize and leaving with thoughts of what might have been.
In his annual address, President Ian showed that he is still a Category 1 orator, lamenting, like Capt. Boyle, that the world is still 'in a state of chassis', although something which hasn't changed is the Press Radio & TV Golf Society. The sense of belonging and the camaraderie defines the group, to the point of almost saying what a privilege it is to be its President.
There were kind words of encouragement for our members recovering from illness and injury, with a special mention for the welcoming and hospitable people of the remarkable Club that is Woodbrook, who have been very good to our Society over the years. The very tasty dinner, efficiently served with congeniality, was a credit to the catering staff and played no small part in adding to the overall enjoyment of the day. Congratulation to all the prizewinners and well done to everyone who helped in the making of yet another memorable day out.
