Paul's Second Win of 2019 at Co. Meath
Oh, what a beautiful morning; Oh, what a beautiful day.
So it was for Paul McCarthy when cruising to his second victory at Co. Meath to secure Captain Eddie Hearns’ prize with 34 points. The day in the Royal county was brilliant with temperature in the twenties, carpet-like fairways and slick greens, which kept all scores but five below thirty points. There was no wildlife to distract thegolfers and only a few planes and swallows in the air to add atmosphere. Eamonn Brennan was runner-up with 32 points to register his first podium finish this year, while Denis Foley completed the top 3. Class winners Pat O’Donovan, Charlie Doran and Brian Kelly displayed their usual competitive instincts, particularly on the last nine holes, to come out on top.

Captain Eddie spoke eloquently after a magnificent dinner. He remembered and paid tribute to our member, Paul Tighe, who had sadly passed away after a prolonged illness. He went on to thank Co. Meath Golf Club for the quality of the course, their continuing hospitality and also the catering staff for what everyone agreed was a truly great meal.

During the prizegiving, winner Paul McCarthy spoke of his astonishment at securing the Captain’s Prize against such an august field, and his delight in also winning the Past Captains trophy.

And then, as we used to write in essays long ago - sated, tired and happy - we all went home.
