Dublin Journalists even the Score

The annual match between the'Press Radio & Television' and 'Dublin Journalists' Golf Societies for the Michael Carwood Memorial Trophy was held in conjunction with the PRTV outing to Greystones on Monday 15th October. Before play commenced, the overall match score stood at 5 - 4 to the PRTV, but following an enjoyable day's golf, parity had been restored, as a determined DJs team proved too strong and emerged victorious with a few shots to spare. As is customary, the Carwood family were on hand to present the trophy, which was gratefully accepted on behalf of the winning team by Vice Captain Donal Doherty. In the after dinner speeches, both Donal for the DJs and Ronan Collins for the PRTV warmly remembered Michael, who is as sorely missed today in golfing, musical, journalistic and family circles as when he sadly passed away. Michael's son Mark, now based in the U.S. taming such courses as Bethpage Black off his +1 handicap, replied on behalf of the family. Having reached the 10 year milestone, the trophy is being retired, and officers of the two Societies will meet to decide how best to honour Michael's memory into the future. Pictured above with Kathy Carwood are some of the DJs team - Craig Holmes, Michael Devine, Vice Captain Donal Doherty, Sean Duignan, John Brennan and Sean Ryan, whose 39pts was the best individual score on the day.
Running in parallel was our own Society's first 'Christmas Fare' Outing of the year.
The Front 9 at Greystones demands respect, and it is no coincidence that today's Hamper winner, Myles Cronan, plays his Club golf at Howth, a course similar in many respects. Myles was pushed all the way by Peter Rea, whose 35pts was just 1 short of victory.
