Pat not hampered by Greystones countback On the 13th Oct. 1773, the French astronomer
Charles Messier discovered the Whirlpool Galaxy, about 20 million
light years from the Milky Way. On the same date in 2014, Pat Bernard,
fresh from a brief sojourn in sunny Spain, rediscovered the winning
formula at the PRTV outing at Greystones, where all but a few were
light years from seriously challenging for the first Hamper of the
season. The notable exceptions were Pat Malone, who returned the same
33pts score as the winner but had to cede victory to the latter's
better inward half, and Charlie Doran, who finished a further point
adrift. On a day and course just about perfect for golf, subtly positioned
pins on scary fast greens were a putt too far for most, thus perhaps
excusing why only 3 players managed to break into the thirties. Next
Outing: European Club (Lakelands Trophy) Matchplay Final at Royal Dublin.
